TRAINER

What is it?

The Provide First Aid course teaches you the knowledge and practical skills needed to handle emergency situations and provide critical care until professional help arrives. You'll also gain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation accreditation and learn how to manage injuries, respond effectively in emergencies, and provide vital support to your team with confidence.

Where can it lead?

This can lead to Advanced Resuscitation Techniques and, when combined with the Observer's Award, entry-level patrol duties.

What are the requirements?

  • Minimum 14 years old  

Will I need to get wet?

  • No

This could suit you if you are:

  • Approachable and friendly 

  • Calm in emergency situations 

ASSESSOR

What is it?

The Observer's Award is a shore-based qualification that develops your surf awareness and observation skills. You'll learn how to read ocean conditions, recognise potential risks and hazards, and identify people who may be in danger in the surf – all without getting wet.

Where can it lead?

When combined with First Aid or the Radio Operator Award, this can lead to entry-level patrol duties.

What are the requirements?

  • Minimum 13 years old

Will I need to get wet?

  • No

This could suit you if you are:

  • Looking to help without entering the water

  • Approachable and friendly 

  • Calm in emergency situations 

FACILITATOR

What is it?

The Radio Operator Award teaches you how to manage communications between patrols, emergency services, and support crews. You'll learn to confidently use radio equipment, relay clear information, and use calm, clear communications to help coordinate rescues and ensure rapid, effective responses to incidents.

Where can it lead?

When combined with the Observer's Award, this can lead to entry-level patrol duties and further operational communication roles.

What are the requirements?

  • Minimum 13 years old

Will I need to get wet?

  • No

  • Approachable and friendly 

  • Calm in emergency situations
