Our high performance pathways program is designed to help aspiring surf lifesaving athletes reach their full potential. Athletes are nurtured through the club system to prepare them for national and international competition as well as talent selection opportunities.

Named squad members are not guaranteed to make final selected SA Reds / State Team and does not exclude athletes not listed from being selected. Bronze of Origin may be considered for State Team selection.

State & Representative Teams

SA Reds

SA Reds compete in the Super Surf Teams League is a three-day open event conducted over multiple rounds. The SA Reds comprise of two teams - SA Thunder and SA Lightning. Each team includes at least eight athletes (one male and female athlete per swim, board, ski and beach division).

  • In 2024, it was held from Friday January 12 - Sunday January 14 at Maroubra, NSW.

Ocean / Beach State Team

The South Australian Ocean/Beach State Team competes annually in the SLSA Interstate Championships. The team comprises of 36 athletes across pathways (U14 and U15), youth (U17) and open age groups. One male and one female is selected from each group to represent the state in swim, board, ski, beach and ironperson.

Surf Boat State Team

The South Australian Surf Boat State Team competes in the Interstate Championship conducted at the ASRL Open each year. The team is made up of Men’s & Women’s crews from the Open, Reserve, Under 23 & Under 19 divisions.

IRB State Team

The South Australian IRB State Team competes at the SLSA IRB Interstate Championships.

Pool Rescue State Team

The South Australian Pool Rescue State Team competes annually at the SLSA Australian Pool Rescue Championships, which are generally held in August.

SA Surf League

An exciting team-based competition showcasing some of our best athletes as they go head-to-head on the sand and in the surf across multiple rounds. Athletes are selected based on previous competition results and allocated into random teams with other athletes from different clubs across the state. The series features individual and team races in Swim, Board, Ski, Beach Sprints and IRB Racing.
