Nippers is a whole family experience, and parents, guardians and other members can play an important role in helping programs run safely and successfully. Whether you want to support children in the water, lead an age group, assist at events or help behind the scenes, there are many ways to get involved - with training and support available every step of the way.
Age Manager & Age Manager Assistant
What is it?
Age Managers and Age Manager Assistants play a vital role in the Nippers program, helping to deliver fun, engaging and educational sessions. You'll guide children through activities that build beach and water safety skills, confidence and teamwork, and a love for the ocean, with training and resources provided to help you create a positive and inclusive environment.
Where can it lead?
Age Manager Assistants can progress to Age Managers, with further opportunities in youth development, education and club leadership.
What are the requirements?

Nipper Safety Assistant
What is it?
The Nipper Safety Assistant Award is an entry-level pathway for members to support water-based activities under supervision. You'll work alongside qualified lifesavers during Nippers, surf education programs and community events, helping maintain safety while building practical experience, teamwork and confidence around the beach.
Where can it lead?
This can support progression into further water safety, surf education and lifesaving qualifications.

Junior Committee
What is it?
Junior Committee members help plan and support the activities, events and competitions that shape the Nippers experience. You'll work with Age Managers, officials and other volunteers to support smooth club operations and ensure a positive Nippers experience, while building practical skills in organisation, teamwork and leadership. Your involvement may include organising club BBQs, assisting at carnivals and supporting other club activities and initiatives.
Where can it lead?
This experience can support future club committee and leadership roles.

Nippers Admin
What is it?
The Nipper Administration role is essential to the smooth and successful running of a club’s Nippers program. You may manage registrations, communicate with families, maintain accurate records and support Age Managers and coordinators. By keeping the program organised, you’ll help create a positive experience for Nippers and their families while contributing away from the sand.

Adaptive Nippers Admin & Instructors
What is it?
Adaptive Nipper programs provide children with additional needs an inclusive and supportive way to enjoy the beach, build water confidence and take part in Surf Life Saving.
Parents and carers play an important role in supporting Adaptive Nipper programs, with opportunities to help behind the scenes or take an active role in program delivery. In administration, you may assist with registrations, communication and coordination. As an instructor, you’ll help adapt activities, provide individual support and create a safe, inclusive environment where every child can learn at their own pace.
