CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) UPDATE

CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) UPDATE: DAY 1 OF JUNIOR AND SENIOR STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS CANCELLED (14 & 15 MARCH)

Surf Life Saving South Australia continues to closely monitor the spread of this pandemic. Today, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison held a press conference to address the evolving situation and advised that by Monday, 16 March, a precautionary ban will be put in place to restrict the running of non-essential organised gatherings of 500 people or more.

As an organisation with a primary focus on public safety, we have an obligation to assist the government in meeting health objectives by doing what we can to slow transmission of COVID-19 among our members and members of the public as a whole.

With health advice regarding COVID-19 developing at a rapid rate, we have made the proactive decision to cancel day 1 of Junior and Senior State Titles, scheduled for this weekend (14th & 15th of March).

This decision has not been made lightly and is in the interests of our members, athletes and the wider community more broadly, as the health of our members is our top priority.

We will be following the recommendations and advice from the government and other health-industry bodies regarding the best course of action to follow. At this stage, we are carefully considering upcoming events on our calendar, including:

  • 21-22 March – Days 2 & 3 of Junior State Championships

  • 28-29 March – Days 2 & 3 of Senior State Championships

We share the disappointment of all of this weekend’s competitors and families that we know were eagerly awaiting this weekend’s events.

We will communicate any further changes to the schedule of our events to members in due-course.

These are unprecedented times, but the health and well-being of our members must always be the priority and we will continue to do all we can to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all.
