Endorsed Delegates Request Form

Clubs should use the Selection Rubric (noted in the SLSSA Endorsed Delegate Club Resource), to decide if someone is suitable to be an Endorsed Delegate.

At the very least, an Endorsed Delegate must:

• Be a current and financial member for the season in which they are appointed

• Be 18 years or older

• Hold a valid WWCC

• Hold current proficiency in the award(s) they are verifying

• Have completed the previous season's Skills Maintenance

• Participate in a club specific briefing by a qualified Assessor or Chie Instructor (CI)

The exception to this is that all Powercraft award holders (except IRB Crew ) must be observed by qualified Assessors.

Steps to endorse a member are:

• Step 1. Establish your Endorsed Delegate Selection Team

• Step 2: Club Identification

• Step 3: Management Committee Approval

• Step 4: Submission to SLSSA - Surf Guard Processing

• Step 5: Deployment & Support

They will need to:

• Read over all relevant Skills Maintenance documentation

• Be briefed prior to conducting any assessment on:

  • What skills maintenance activities are to be run

  • The skills they are required to assess

  • The key competencies they should be looking for in assessing skills (e.g. depth and rate of compressions in CPR, personal safety and victim care in a tube rescue, safely navigating conditions on a board, operational knowledge of radio use)

  • The process of reasonable adjustment including when and how it might be applied

  • What to do when someone does not demonstrate the requirements to become proficient

    • It is recommended that these ‘hard conversations’ be left to the Chief Instructor or assessor and not an Endorsed Delegate.

  • Be given access to and shown how to use the Assessing app

    • The online tool used to record assessment results (Refer to the SLSA Assessing App User Guide for instructions on how to use the app. These are available on the SLSA IT Helpdesk website)

• Be shown what paperwork needs to be completed, if assessment is not completed online, and who paperwork should be returned to, by when.

The following access is given automatically in the Assessing app:

• An assessor in any award is given automated access to that award.

• A Bronze Assessor can assess Resuscitation, SRC and Bronze

• SLSSA Member Education Staff will allocate the Endorsed Delegate Award to all current Training Officers for the award they train.

The Endorsed Delegate Award needs to be allocated to the following, if approved to do so by their club:

• A Bronze Trainer or Assessor, can be allocated Endorsed Delegate for SMAR

• A member who is not a Trainer or Assessor but has been approved by their club to be an Endorsed Delegate.

Yes. Like other awards, the Endorsed Delegate Award only lasts 12months, and clubs need to go through the process of selecting Endorsed Delegate status annually.

This normally means that there is something preventing them from being added i.e. don’t have a current endorsed delegate award.

To resolve:

• Check to see if they have a current Endorsed Delegate Award for that award.

• If they don’t, get approval from the club and submit an Endorsed Delegate Request form

• If they do, email the Member Ed team with details of the event you are trying to add them to, and their name and the team will look into it. If they can’t resolve, they will need to contact SLS IT Support and log a IT Support ticket
