Our Club, is Your Club - New Campaign Launched to Attract New Members to Clubs

“OUR CLUB, IS YOUR CLUB”

NEW RECRUITMENT CAMPAIGN TO BRING SOUTH AUSTRALIAN VOLUNTEERS BACK TO LOCAL SURF LIFE SAVING CLUBS.

Surf Life Saving Clubs are at the heart of many local communities across Australia with a new recruitment campaign launched today looking to welcome a new generation of surf lifesavers. As we emerge from COVID-19 isolation we want to remind South Aussies of the benefits of volunteering and the benefits that their local Surf Life Saving Clubs can offer them.

More than 2,500 active volunteer surf lifesavers from 21 Surf Life Saving Clubs across SA have begun patrolling beaches across the state on weekends and public holidays but we still need more volunteers in a range of roles. You don't have to be 6-feet tall. You don't have to get up every morning and train. You don't even have to get your toes wet.

Surf Life Saving Clubs right across SA, but particularly those in regional locations such as Whyalla, Beachport, Goolwa and Robe are in search of new members, with these beaches expected to be busier than ever this summer, with more people holidaying at home this year. South Australian Surf Life Saving Clubs are hubs for the community and deliver more than just an on-beach safety service but offer training, education, recreation, a place to socialise and give people a sense of purpose and belonging.

“There are many opportunities within Surf Life Saving for people of varied ages and abilities to become involved and contribute to the patrolling and behind the scenes capability of Surf Life Saving, not all of which involve donning the red and yellow. At any age you could be an official, athlete, coach, fundraiser, junior activities supervisor, trainer and assessor, rescue boat driver, radio operator, committee member, or BBQ chef, “said SLSSA President John Baker.

The ‘Our Club is Your Club’ campaign will be launched nationwide today with Surf Life Saving Australia and all states and territories collaborating to achieve one common goal – to bring our members new and old back home.

In a recent report on ‘The Social and Economic Value of Surf Life Saving Australia’ carried out by Deloitte Access Economics, 90% of Surf Life Saving Club members said that being a part of their club assists them to positively contribute to their community.

“As surf clubs re-open around the country for the warmer months after what has been a very challenging year, we’re encouraging new and old members to join “our clubs,” said SLSA National President Graham Ford AM.

“Our surf clubs are more than just a building or a service, they’re a home, a family and we are asking all Australians to join us and make it ‘your club’ too. COVID-19 has certainly impacted us as an organisation and we have worked hard to develop ways in which we can keep all people safe in this regard and we need to make sure that we can maintain our capacity and presence on the beach over the busy summer months,” added Ford AM.
