This weekend, South Australia’s best surf sports athletes are set to compete at Seacliff Beach in the first Surf Life Saving SA event of the season.
560 competitors from across the state will thrash it out at the first qualifying event for both of the Summer State Teams.
State Head Coach Bly Bayliss expects the conditions to be tough on the athletes with 23 knot north westerly forecasted.
“My biggest advice would be for the athletes to go hard, it will be tough, but they also need to keep in mind that they do have more opportunities in the season to make the State teams if results are not in their favour.”
This year athletes have a number of State Team selection events prior to December where both the SLSSA Surf Boat Team and the SLSSA Multi- Discipline Team will be announced.
Selection Events for both teams will include all Surf Life Saving SA carnivals prior to Christmas.
This includes Senior Carnivals on; October 29 at Seacliff Beach, November 19th at Aldinga Bay and December 3rd at Moana. The Surf Boat Team will also have an additional selection event on December 9th at Robe.
The high intensity competition with the addition of some strong winds this Sunday is set to be a challenging event for all athletes involved. Get along to Seacliff Beach this Sunday to check out all the action and maybe a little carnage.
