Athlete Profile - BEN ZUILL

Ben has been a member of the West Beach Surf Lifesaving Club since he was 6 years old. Growing up he always loved how unpredictable surf races could be with all the external influences like waves and weather.

Ben never won an individual medal in juniors and only about 4 team medals but he just loved racing. At 16 He finally made it onto the State Team and started to see the hard work paying off. Later in that season he took out the Open Iron man at State Titles as an Under 17. Since then his views on training and racing have completely evolved, he is now aiming to make it on the National Stage, especially the Coolangatta Gold. In 2012 Ben took out the bronze in the U19 Coolangatta Gold and he backed it up with a bronze in the U20 Surf Race at the World Championships. More recently Ben took out fourth in the Open Coolangatta Gold and is the current SA Surf Race, Board Race & Ironman Championship Title holder.

Ben is the currently in prime position on the leader boards to take out the Surf Ski and Board Titles for this years Surf Sport Series. However he has a tough few rounds a head of him to hold onto the titles.

Ben is constantly kept on his toes by younger brother Matt, however Ben is not to fazed by it an enjoys the pressure.

Outside of Surf Lifesaving Ben enjoys various activities including Cycling, Soccer, Basketball and Lawn Bowls (in summer). Ben is currently completing a Double Degree in Mathematical and Computer Sciences with Finance at the University of Adelaide.

We wish Ben Good Luck for the Coolangatta Gold this weekend!
